Oh, the tree of life is growing
Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation shines
In dark and empty skies
(Dylan, Death is Not the End, 1988)
Inspiration for this series was twofold - exploration of pattern with the universal symbol of the ‘Tree of Life’. This resulted in a series of collagraphs, which were then hand painted in watercolour. Collagraphy is a very versatile printing process as it utilises a range of everyday materials for collage. The idea is to glue down a range of fabrics and materials onto a hard piece of cardboard to build a relief surface. This ‘plate’ then gets inked, and printed. Materials used include, different textured papers, gauze, string, wool, doilies, tea leaves and leaves from the studio garden.
The first artwork in this 'Tree of Life' series is available as a limited edition archival print (edition 15). Contact May/see Store.
